Central air conditioners are very commonly used in offices and other areas. In the system of central air conditioning, the ducts are used to distribute the air from one room to the other. In such a system the outdoor condenser coil pumps the refrigerant to a single indoor coil. The regulation of the cold air in each room of a building is done by changing the temperature in each room. There are two components of central air conditioners, viz condenser and evaporator. A concrete slab is used outside the house to place the condenser unit of the central air conditioner. The main duct junction that is located above the furnace is used to mount the evaporator coil. In most of the cases, the forced air distribution system is used while connecting the central air conditioners. The central air conditioner uses the motor, duct and the blower for the distribution of the cold air. The hot air that is situated inside the house is flown to the furnace with the help of the return air duct. The blower takes that hot air and moves it across the evaporator coil that is situated in the plenum, which is thereafter passed to the entire house through the ducts. There may be cases when the central air conditioner is working, but there may not be that much cooling in the house. This is a significance of some kind of problem in the distribution system. This demands repair of the central air conditioner. It may become difficult to repair the central air conditioner at home. In such a case, there is a need to call a professional mechanic to repair the system. In case of central air conditioner, there is a need to call a mechanic for any kind of maintenance activity apart from regular cleaning of the AC. Also, there is a need to inspect the central air conditioner every time before starting them in the season. However, apart from the yearly maintenance activity, there are certain other cleaning and maintenance activities that can be performed by an individual himself, thus ensuring long life and smooth functioning of the central air conditioner. It is very important to ensure that the power of the central air conditioner is turned off when performing any kind of maintenance activity. The repair works that can be carried by anyone are listed below: • The condenser may not run due to absence of power, high setting of thermostat, faulty motor, and faulty compressor. In case of absence of power, one should check for fuses, and repair the circuit. The thermostat setting should be set to lower value, if there is a problem with the setting. A professional should be called in case of faulty motor or faulty compressor. • The uneven cooling may also take place at times which may be due to an imbalance in the distribution system. Balance the system and the cooling would return back to normal. • If the thermostat is set too high, or the evaporator is too dirty, there may be inadequate cooling. In such a situation the setting should be lowered to 5°. Also, the evaporator should be cleaned for proper cooling. • If the central air conditioner does not cool at all, then there might be problem with the thermostat, condenser, compressor or the evaporator. In this situation, the setting of the thermostat should be lowered to 5°. The coil and the fins of the condenser should be cleaned properly with the help of a vacuum brush. Straighten the fins if required. The evaporator should also be cleaned properly. There is a need to call a professional in case the compressor is faulty. • In some cases the condenser unit turns off and on frequently. In such a case, the condenser and the evaporator may be dirty. So clean the condenser and the evaporator. Also remove any kind of debris blocking the functioning of the condenser, so that the system is able to function properly. If the central air conditioner does not work properly in spite of the above said measures, then there is a need to call a professional. A professional would be better able to diagnose the problem and restore the functioning of the AC back to the normal level. |
